Roebuck hunting in June and fist part of July it is extremely difficult, period. In fact, only the 2 weeks period after the rut time, is more difficult for roebuck hunting. Regarding period after the rut we will write another post next week.

We strongly recommend our clients NOT to book for June, but sometimes their schedule doesn’t permit other dates.

First things first, let see why the roebuck hunting is very difficult in June and first part of July.

One reason is high vegetation and crops all over the fields. The open fields and roads are so narrow that you simply can not see the bucks, or you will see them with the back of your eye.
Even in the forest, you will often experience such a high undergrowth that a roebuck can be difficult to spot.

Another reason is that the buck’s movement changes during the season. Especially when the high temperatures are reached, the roebucks become “lazy” and can be incredibly difficult to find.

But don’t worry! These are indeed some useful tips and tactics for roebuck hunting. Let’s summarize them:

If I had to choose only one time, to go roebuck hunting in June, then it would always be right after a good rain shower. The bucks simply become more active as soon as the sun comes out again, after rain.
In both cases means that the buck will have to move around the terrain, and you will often have the chance to “catch” him in an open area if you position yourself correctly.

So if you only have a certain number of hunting days, available in June or first three weeks of July, I would recommend that you check the weather forecast and choose the days when it will rain.

Change hunting locations: If you haven’t had success in a particular area, try changing your hunting location. In June, bucks may prefer to hide in thickets and areas with big shade. Choose a hunting position close to these areas where the buck is likely to hide.

Try an early season buck call: Some buck calls are designed specifically for the early season before the rut. These calls can make a territorial buck believe that another buck has entered its domain and the big buck will come for a fight.. Using such calls can be effective in attracting bucks. If you don’t have that kind of caller you can try a Buttolo caller. The chances are lower but sometimes it works.

Consider using scents and lures: Scents and lures, commonly used by hunters in the US, can also be effective in attracting roe deer. Some scents are used to mask human scent, while others have a luring effect on game. Using these scents and lures can help tip the odds in your favor when hunting roebucks.

Remember, hunting regulations and practices can vary by region, so always ensure that you comply with local laws and regulations while hunting. Good luck on your roebuck hunting adventures!
